Secure Password/Passphrase
Cyber hackers have developed numerous algorithms designed to hack your password. It's imperative that we create strong, difficult to guess passwords.
We recommend the use of a Passphrase for your password. A Passphrase is like a password, but longer and more secure. When creating your Passphrase, think of a personal, memorable phrase. Then use the first letter of each word in your phrase to create your password (see image). Mix in the use of a capital letter, numbers and symbols and you have just created a strong password that will be difficult to hack.
Tips to think about when creating your passphrase/password:
- Use a unique password/passphrase
- Use a mix of letters, numbers and symbols
- Password/passphrase should be at least 12 characters in length
- Don’t use personal information or common words. Example: words found in the dictionary or University words such as ‘Kettering’, ‘Bulldogs’ and ‘SpringTerm2017’.
- Keep your passwords secure
If you want an even easier way to create and use multiple secure passwords, you may want to look into a password manager solution.
