Transfer Equivalency FAQs (Degree Works)

Transfer Equivalency FAQs (Degree Works)

What is Transfer Equivalency?

Transfer Course Equivalency is an online tool which can be used to determine an estimate of what classes might transfer into Kettering University for specific academic programs. Your results will also indicate what Kettering courses would need to be completed to earn a degree here.

Please note: Your results from using Transfer Course Equivalency are unofficial and should only be considered as an estimate.

The application follows a step-by-step approach, or workflow, to perform a transfer course equivalency audit. The audit displays details of the student’s classes, how they transfer into the school, and the extent to which they contribute to progress towards the student’s intended degree at that school.

The following steps make up the self-service workflow:
  1. Select an intended degree, major, and entering academic year.
  2. Select a transfer school.
  3. Select the classes taken at the transfer school.
  4. Enter the grade, credits, and term for each transfer class.
  5. Click Results to see the unofficial degree audit.

How can I get an Official Credit Evaluation?

Once you have been accepted and have submitted your $300 enrollment deposit, an official Transcript Evaluation will usually be completed within approximately three weeks, once Kettering University has received all final transcripts.

What email address should I use?

When creating your account, please use the preferred email address that Kettering University can use to contact you.

What if I don’t know when I plan to enroll?

Select the academic term closest to when you might consider starting. Keep in mind that Kettering University has four academic terms that are approximately three months long, with mid-summer and end of year holiday breaks. Terms start as follows:
  1. Summer (July),
  2. Fall (October),
  3. Winter (January)
  4. Spring (April)

What if my college/university is not listed in the Select a School Section?

A few options:
  1. Check your spelling
  2. It may be listed under a variation. For example, the University of Michigan Flint is listed as U of Michigan - Flint
  3. It’s possible that your college may be one that Kettering has not had students transfer from previously. If that’s the case, please contact the Kettering University Office of Admissions (admissions@kettering.edu, 800.955.4464 ext. 7865, or 810.762-7865).

What if I make a mistake?

You can either use the Start Over icon in the upper right corner, or under the My Transfer Work section, select the class you want to delete and use the trash can icon, or edit the information in the class by clicking the pencil icon. If you want to change the initial information in the Basics section (such as intended major or enrollment dates, select the title under the Your Answers section).

What if a class I took is not listed in the Select a Class Section?

If a class is not listed, it either has no Kettering equivalent or has not been evaluated yet. Contact admissions@kettering.edu with questions regarding unlisted courses.

How do I list classes I’m currently enrolled in?

Add the class and just select a passing grade (C or better). Remember, this is an unofficial estimate of what courses will transfer. The final determination will be made by a Kettering University official following acceptance and receipt of final official transcript(s) from your previous college(s).

What grade is required to transfer a class?

Only classes with a “C” or better will be considered for transfer credit.

I don’t see the MTA (Michigan Transfer Agreement) indicated in my TCE results.

If you are transferring from a Michigan community college, the results of this tool will not reflect if MTA requirements have been met. Check with your community college for MTA requirements and with your Kettering University Transfer Admissions Counselor. If you have met the MTA requirements, request that your community college indicate that on your official transcript.

What if I have AP or IB credits?

Select the Exam option under the Step 2. Transfer heading. You will need the Test Name and Test Score. Test Date is optional. Also, you will need to have the official score sent from the school where you took those tests.

Do you accept dual enrollment or early/middle college credits?

This will be evaluated on a case by case basis. For college credits to transfer, Kettering requires official transcripts from the registrar of the college that granted the credits.

I’ve been to more than one college or University. Can I add from more than one?

Yes. Once you have entered all the classes from one college/university you attended, go back to the Step 2. Transfer link, select Class, and then select the next college/university you attended.

Once I’ve added all of my classes, what do I do?

Select the Results tab or the I'm all done button. This will generate an estimated and unofficial list of courses that may transfer, as well as what courses you will need to complete at Kettering.

Do I need to do this all at one time, or can I come back to my work later?

You do not need to enter all your information at once. However, you do need to save your work, as the system will time out after 30 minutes or inactivity.

Can I go back later on and update my list of classes?

Yes. Just log back in, go to step 2. Transfer and continue where you left off. Learn more.

What if I forgot my password?

Send an email to helpdesk@kettering.edu with the subject "Transfer Course Equivalency password reset" to request a new password. Please provide the email you registered with and your first and last name.

Can I use Transfer Course Equivalency from my mobile device?

Yes, the the Transfer Equivalency application is mobile compatible.

How do I make a copy of my results?

See Download PDF section help page.

Will Kettering need a copy of my results?

While it may be beneficial for you to have a copy of your results whenever you visit campus, it will not be required, as we will need official transcripts from each previous college / university you’ve attended (plus high school transcripts and standardized scores if you have less than 24 completed college credits).

My results are done. When can I transfer to Kettering?

Kettering has rolling admissions for transfer students - you can apply for any of our start terms: Summer (July), Fall (October), Winter (January), and Spring (April). To apply, go to https://www.kettering.edu/undergraduate-admissions/apply.

Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA)

For students who have met the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) requirements at a Michigan community college, this tool will not indicate that result. Request that your final official college transcript indicate “MTA Satisfied” once you have been accepted and all courses have been completed at your community college.
